PTSA Reflections Program

In its more than 40-year history, the Reflections program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to submit works of art in six arts areas:

  • Dance choreography
  • Film production
  • Literature
  • Musical composition
  • Photography
  • Visual arts

Reflections Theme - "Diversity Means..."

Each year, the National PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme. Themes are selected from hundreds of ideas submitted by students in the PTA Reflections Program Theme Search Contest. Past themes have included "Exploring New Beginnings," "If I Could Give the World a Gift...," "A Different Kind of Hero," “I Can Make a Difference by…” and “Wow!” and "Together we can." The 2011-2012 theme is "Diversity Means..."

Student Participation

Annually, hundreds of thousands of students participate in the Reflections program through their local PTAs. These student winners go on to compete at the district/regional and state levels, with the best-of-the-best entries going to National PTA to be considered for a National Reflections award. Each year, PTA gives the following awards at the national level:

  • Outstanding Interpretation Awards
  • Awards of Excellence
  • Awards of Merit
  • Honorable Mention

Any Bowie student is invited to create original art inspired by this year's theme and participate in the National PTSA project. All projects are judged. Some will move on to Council, some to State and some to National PTSA.  Artwork is due on or before November 18, 2011.  Entry forms, consent forms and rules are available below and also in the Reflections box at the Kennel and in the Library. Submit your artwork into the same box.  Any questions, contact Linda Citron at 291-4827 or lgcitron@yahoo.com
