New To Bowie Orientation
A "Welcome" breakfast for any freshman, sophomore or senior who is moving into the area is provided a few days before school starts. We want to create an atmosphere of support and readily available information for our newcomers to Bowie!
We help staff volunteers for Dawg days where Bowie students pick up their books, parking passes and any other permits during this time. School staff and volunteers work the event. Students are expected to attend Dawg Days of Summer. Dawg Days is a way to minimize the loss of instructional time by taking care of housekeeping business. Students from 9th – 12th grades are assigned specific days and times to report for student ID pictures, lockers, textbooks, parking permits and yearbook purchase.
Back to School Night
We provide water for sale and help promote the one night where Bowie parents get to come to Bowie with their student's schedule and get to step into their student's shoes for one night. Parents will have a chance to meet the principal and hear about school expectations. Then parents will have a mini version of their students daily schedule by going to each class and metting teachers - all while listening for the bell and trying not to be tardy. This might be the only time to meet your student's teachers!
General School Support
When possible, we work with Bowie Administration to provide for items that might help make our school more functional. Last year we provided racks for the walls so that informational/student posters and flyers could be hung up without stripping the paint from the pillars and walls.
PIE - Partners In Education
PTSA volunteers work with the community to garner sponsorship for items that help to make learning that much more comforting! Last year office furniture and couches and chair were donated, helping to make a student lounge space for students.
Affordable Pet Clinic for Animal Vaccinations
We promote and help organize the community service.
Bowie High School Spirit Tree at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Each year we have encouraged all Booster Clubs to provide a "spirit" ornament for our Bowie Christmas tree. The Wildflower Center graciously provides us a spot and PTSA volunteers put up and decorate the Bowie Tree. The tree is on display througout December.
