Bowie Blast - Week of Feb. 4

Orchestra & Guitar UIL Solo & Ensemble Results

Bowie had 23 Orchestra Students participate at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition for Orchestra and Guitar. Sixteen students earned a First Division Rating of Superior on their solo with 4 of the 16 qualifying for Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest which takes place over Memorial Day Weekend. Special congratulations go out to the following students for qualifying for state solo and ensemble in May: Kathryn Park on violin, Matthew Velasquez on viola, Kody Cardamone and Max Schofield on bass. On Violin: Jocelyn Brooks, Jonah Cadena-Perena, Emma Davis, Rhea Dharwadker, Emmanuel Dominguez, Maya Rodriguez, Jiwoo Suh, Vishwak Tadepalli, Kristin Tran. On Viola: Elizabeth Bullock and Lee Stone. Cello: Nithin Chidambara

Also, we had 29 guitarist at the UIL Solo Competition represent Bowie performing pieces they have worked on for judges. Out of 29 students 17 earned a First Division Rating of Superior for their solos! Out of those 17 performers 6 will be advancing to the state level contest. Class 3 Performers: Parker Aldridge - 9th,Javier Capote-Perez - 11th, Kyle Folkers - 11th, Christian Garcia - 9th, Samuel Holschuh - 9th, Kevin Mueller - 12th, Matthew Wash - 9th,Miranda Whisenhunt - 10th. Class 2 Performers: Avery Byers -11th, Ryan Kriech -11th, Sophie Lupton - 11th.

**Class 1 Performers - Superior Rating and advancing to State! Connor Hurd - 10th, Fabian Isaola - 11th, Aidan Sander - 9th, Aidan Suskic - 10th, Lief Tilton - 9th, Travis Willi - 10th.

Bowie Hosted the Texas Color Guard Circuit Indoor Festival

The Bowie Indoor Festival was one of the largest we have hosted at our school and was a great success! 54 Texas High Schools competed in the Texas Color Guard Circuit. James Bowie High School A and World Teams both won their classes and started off the season very strong.

Bowie Swim and Dive Team District Results

The girls placed 4th overall beating our longtime rival Anderson, the boys placed 5th overall beating Lake Travis, and the team placed 5th combined overall. Our district is one of the hardest in the state so we are extremely proud of how well they performed. All six of our relays will be moving on to Regionals next week which is a huge accomplishment.

Regional Qualifiers: CJ Suarez placed 5th in his 200IM and 10th for his 100Fly, earning his letter as a freshman -Arianna Lax placed 4th in her 500FR and 9th in her 100Fly, earning her letter as a freshman - Brooke Simpson placed 8th in her 100Breast, earning her letter as a freshman! - Alekzander Popper placed 1st in diving, earning his letter as a freshman - Delaney Anthony placed 7th in her 100FR - Megan Weiss placed 8th in her 100Breast and 10th in her 500FR - Kaitlyn McDaniel placed 4th in her 200IM and 7th in her 100Fly - Gavin Moak placed 1st in his 200IM and 2nd in his 500FR - Sigrid Lamberg placed 4th in her 100Breast and 8th in her 50FR, earning her letter before returning to Denmark - Diana Dunn placed 1st in her 200IM and 3rd in her 100FR - Jake Mickelsonplaced 4th in his 50FR and 8th in his 100FR - Will Waldman placed 7th in his 100Breast.

Relay qualifiers include: Mackenzie Martell, Caroline Myers, Wes Wasserburger, Nicolas Tornoe, Garrison Sales, and James Hayek.

Brooke Simpson and Jake Mickelson were awarded Swimmers of the Meet, voted on by their teammates.

We Love Our Teachers & Staff

Chanel Dobrzenski, Head Swim & Dive Coach/ Photography Teacher was awarded District Coach of the Year, which was voted on by fellow district coaches. Also, a red carpet and drumroll goes to Bowie’s 2017-2018 Teacher of Promise to Mr. Miguel Perez our Assistant Band Director. Thank you both for your dedication to our students at Bowie.
