Bowie Guitar Competes…

Two of our Bowie Guitar Ensembles competed at a Sight Reading and Concert event. Our Varsity Ensemble received a score of 1,1,1 for their Concert and a score of 1,2,2 for their sight reading, The Non-Varsity Ensemble received a score of 1,1,1 for their Concert and a score of 1,2,2 for their sight reading. Great Job!

Bowie UIL Academic Team Comes Out With State Qualifiers…

The Bowie UIL Academic Team competed at Baylor University and we are very proud to announce that, for the first time, two academic teams will be representing Bowie at the State Meet. Mathew Ankele placed second in Accounting, and advances to the State Meet. He is coached by Jennifer Vance. The Current Events Team, which includes Zach Houdek, Jack Maedgen, Amy Shreeve and Brianna Rodriguez, advanced to the State Meet. Other individual and team results included: 4th place (and alternate to State) in Informative Speaking- Jack Maedgen;6th place in Informative Speaking- Zach Houdek;

7th place in Prose Interpretation- Jamie Muras; 8th place in Accounting- Alex Olah; 2nd place Accounting Team -Matthew Ankele, Alex Olah, Talia Hanley and Anna Esaka.

Farm Business Management & Vet Science Team Competes…

Our Career Development Teams, Farm Business Management received 1st place at Area and will be advancing to state competition. The Bowie Vet Science team placed 16th Congratulations to the Bowie Farm Management Team and their coach, Ms. Dickinson: Brandon Parker, Grace Burden, Hannah Shepard, and Jazmin Garza. The Bowie Vet Science Team: Alejandra Rivera, Mark Fattouh, Karen Kim and Kylee Rhorer.

JEA National Convention Results for Student Newspaper…

The Dispatch, student newspaper, captured 2nd place Best in Show for broadsheet newspapers at the JEA/NSPA Fall National Convention. This is the best showing ever for the paper! All of the students who attended the convention participated in national write-off competitions and five newspaper staff members grabbed national awards. Editor-in-Chief Violet Glenewinkel grabbed an excellent in Review Writing;

Managing Editor Mia Barbosaearned an excellent in Portrait Photography; Managing Editor Victoria Newell also snagged an Honorable Mention in Feature Writing; Sports Editor Shelby Kelly's Sports Writing effort resulted in an Honorable Mention; 2018-19 incoming Co-Editor-in-Chief Abby Ong won her second consecutive excellent in Themed Photography.

“Bowie is a Great Place to Tell the Story of a Year”…

At the Yearbook National Convention in San Francisco, last year's yearbook, Volume 29, received 6th place Best in Show in the 337+ pages division. Junior editors Maddy Rice, Jocelyn Brooks & Mia Moore all placed nationally in their yearbook copy & caption writing competitions. Maddy was best in the nation in the Clubs division, Jocelyn was one of three Excellents in the Student Life Division, and Mia received Excellent in the Academic division. At the convention, our yearbook staff attended sessions about typography, design, leadership, workflow management, photojournalism, multimedia add-ons & more.

James Bowie World Guard Named a World Class Finalist…

The 2018 James Bowie World Guard had two exciting and inspiring performances that led to being named a finalist. This marks Bowie's 3rd appearance in Scholastic World Finals, which marks a new record in Texas State History. We are the only Scholastic World Color Guard to make finals three times since this competitive classification started in 1991. At WGI 2018, our World Guard performed to a sold-out crowd of over 14,000 along with a live international broadcast online. The world guard had their best show of the season Saturday night. Bowie Baseball Swinging…

Bowie Basketball won a close game against Anderson HS 2-1. This was enough to earn Coach Degelia his 100th win as head coach! The team thanks everyone who attends games and shows support to the Bulldogs.

James Bowie Choral Department Dominates at Choir UIL…

The James Bowie Choral Department competed at the Region 18 UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest. We had five separate ensembles compete, and all five received the coveted Sweepstakes Award for receiving Superior Ratings in both Concert and in Sight-Reading! This is the 1st time in over 15 years that the Freshmen level Women’s Choirhas competed on their own at UIL and the 1st time they have ever received a Sweepstakes in their category. This is the 1st time in the history of James Bowie High School that we have won five Sweepstakes in the same year. What an amazing feat and a huge achievement for our choir students. At our Region 18 Contest, Bowie was the only school in the Region to be awarded 5 Sweepstakes, we got the most awards of any school competing, and we received more First Divisions scores than any organization the Austin ISD as well as Region 18. Great Showing for Girls Track Team…

Girls Track Team at the Area Meet won 2nd place as a team against some of the best teams in Central Texas. We will be advancing the following athletes to the Regional meet in Waco -

Claire Meyer - 1st place in the 3200m and 1600m and had a personal best in both; Taylor Hubbard - 3rd place in Pole Vault; Alyssa Magallanez - 1st place in the High Jump and tying the school record with a jump of 5' 4"; Keara Mcgraw - 4th in the 100m hurdles; Nya Martin - 3rd in the 100m dash; 800m Relay 3rd place - Abbey Smith, Austyn Keelty, Megan Oldham, Nya Martin; 1600m Relay 4th place - Alexis Guzman, Austyn Keelty, Alexa Palmer, Kennedy Hartman
