National Merit Scholarship Program: These are senior scholars whose scores from their junior PSAT exams were high enough to be recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program and the National Hispanic Recognition program.
The top 50,000 highest scoring students in the nation are identified and 34,000 are recognized for their exceptional academic promise with the title of Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship program.
Bowie High School has fourteen Commended Students in 2018 including Dartanian Babcock, Joe Bridges, Claire Cabler, Grace Clark, Katelyn Dill, Ethan Dougherty, Gage Haden, Rasheek Huq, Alexandra James, Karen Kim, Isabella Lufschanowski, Belle Marley, Amy Shreeve, Ryan Suessmith and Kendall Whitmire.
National Hispanic Recognized Scholars scored in the top 2.5 percent of Hispanic and Latino students in the nation. James Bowie National Hispanic Recognized Scholars are Emily Leeke, Aidan Ellisor, Luciana San Esteban, Carolina Govea, Carina Vockell, Noah Connolly, Joel Navarro, Cianna Chairez, Foster Ray, Katerina McLennan, Julia Cabrera, Ashley Holland, Sophie Bega, Camille Arrredondo and Julia Aguilar.

Wrestling: Congrats to our wrestlers who hosted and competed in the 20th annual Capital Classic. Aylen Vivar was tournament champion at girls 110 pounds and Corey Silguero and Elysiana Calderon took 3rd in their respective
Girls Basketball: Varsity Girls came away with a 70-26 win over Akins on Friday night.
Boys Basketball: The Varsity Boys team was victorious over Akins with a 55-52 win. JV Boys came away with a win as well.
Speech and Debate: The Speech and Debate team competed against 115 schools from across the nation at the UT Longhorn Classic. The team did incredibly well, securing two new state qualifications, three national bids, and a tournament championship and Tournament of Champions qualification for Tate Weston. New state qualifiers include Riley McCue and Alyssa Shumaker in Duo Interpretation and Rasheek Huq in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking.
