Bowie Blast -- Week of Sept. 8

Girls Cross Country: The Westlake Cross Country Invitational was held on Friday, August 30. Senior Morgan Kos earned first place for the Bowie Girls with a 5K time of 20:43. Freshman newcomer, Fiona Tanis finished with a 5K time of 21:07 and Freshman runner Bailey Alsup finished in 5th place in the freshman race with a 2 mile time of 14:29. The third Meet of the year was another success with the JV and Varsity Girls taking 2nd place!

Boys Cross Country: The JV Boys took 3rd place at their third meet of the year! The following Varsity boys, Will Hartnett, Edward Alonzi, Winston Yaeger, and Gabe Castillo ran their 5K in 18 minutes or under! Congrats to all the runners!

Speech & Debate: The James Bowie High School speech and debate team competed in their first tournament of the 2019-20 season. It was a swing or double tournament and the team did incredibly well against the 26 other schools from Central Texas. Congratulations to the following winners in the Pflugerville TFA Swing Tournament 2019: 1st place: Jaden Davis and Connor Snow in Duo Interpretation- Pflugerville; Erin Everette in Novice Oral Interpretation- Hendrickson & Pflugerville; 2nd place: Jaden Davis and Alyssa Shumaker in Duet Acting- Pflugerville; Connor Snow in Humorous Interpretation- Pflugerville; 3rd place: Jaden Davis and Connor Snow in Duo Interpretation- Hendrickson; Jaden Davis and Alyssa Shumaker in Duet Acting- Hendrickson; Ashlyn Dahl in Congressional Debate- Hendrickson& Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking- Pflugerville; Daniel Bamdad in Novice Oral Interpretation- Hendrickson; 4th place: Kaia Pierce and Sydney Reinhart in Duet Acting- Hendrickson & Pflugerville; Ashlyn Dahl in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking- Hendrickson; Alex Paulson in Congressional Debate- Hendrickson; Elliot Crunk in Informative Speaking- Hendrickson; Daniel Bamdad in Novice Oral Interpretation- Pflugerville; 5th place: David Findley in Prose Interpretation- Hendrickson; Jaden Davis in Dramatic Interpretation- Pflugerville; David Findley in Poetry Interpretation- Hendrickson; 6th place: Elliot Crunk in Informative Speaking-Pflugerville; David Findley in Prose Interpretation- Pflugerville; Nadia Petru in Novice Oral Interpretation- Pflugerville; 7th place: Kaelie Douglass in Novice Oral Interpretation- Hendrickson; Quarterfinalists (top 8): Conner Williams and Katie Golson Public Forum Debate-Pflugerville & Hendrickson.

Varsity Tennis: Varsity tennis moved to 4-0 in the season with a dominating victory against Round Rock high school on Tuesday, September 3. Go Tennis Dawgs!

Swim Team: In the early morning of Wednesday, September 4, Bowie swimmers and divers competed in the annual King and Queen of Springs. The athletes met at Deep Eddy Pool to race over to Barton Springs and then swim down and back in the brisk 68 degree water. This year, the King and Queen are Ian Cullicott and Caroline Myers. Congratulate our swimmers on this amazing feat!

Silver Stars: The Silver Stars are continuing their tradition of honoring Bowie teachers by recognizing a teacher each week. This week’s Silver Star teacher of the week is... Mrs. Stiles! The Silver Stars would like to thank Mrs. Stiles for teaching and supporting several of our Senior stars as well as many other students!

Volleyball: The Varsity team lost their first district game to Westlake 3-0 on Friday, August 30. The JV team finished in third place and the Freshman A team finished in 2nd place at the Bowie Sub-Varsity tournament over the Labor Day weekend.
