Bowie Blast - Sept. 22 -29

National Merit Semifinalists: Let's continue the celebrations! About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 PSAT/NMSQT. The following students were commended in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program: Hannah Cherukuri, Sarah Darbar, Haley Harris, Sydney Heim, Connor Hurd, Iqra Khurram, Scott Krabbenhoft, Julia Krebs, Alekhya Kuchimanchi, Adelynn Lemoine, Jack O'Brien, Lila Peredo, Xander Redheendran, Arik Suez and Lilian Vo.

The following students are National Merit Hispanic Scholars and scored in the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT test takers in our region: Carlos Canepa, Sophia Cantu, Sarah Darbar, Emily Morales, Lila Peredo, Andre Plackis and Chance Valdes.

Cross Country: The JV Boys and Girls competed at the Lago Vista Invitational on Saturday, September 14. JV Girls placed 2nd overall. Freshman Bailey Alsup finished in 1st place. JV Boys placed 3rd overall. Sophomore Nick Manire completed the 5K in 19:56.

Bowie Fishing: Taking 3rd place for Bowie Fishing was Alex Cantrell and Hunter Amidon. They came to the scales with a limit weighing 11.31 lbs. They were supported by Captain Michael Amidon. They each took home an Abu Silver Max Reel.

Speech & Debate: Here are the results for Lake Travis TFA State Qualifier held September 20-21, 2019. Bowie has two new State Qualifiers: Zoe Bouck in Humorous Interpretation and Jaden Davis in Dramatic Interpretation. 1st place: Zoe Bouck in Humorous Interpretation, Jaden Davis in Dramatic Interpretation, Connor Snow and Zoe Bouck in Duet Acting, Connor Snow and Jaden Davis in Duo Interpretation; 2nd place: Ashlyn Dahl in Congressional Debate, Kaia Pierce and Sydney Reinhart in Duet Acting, Alyssa Shumaker in Poetry Interpretation; 3rd place: Aidan Garcia and Brennon Zavaleta in Duet Acting, Kaia Pierce in Program Oral Interpretation; 4th place: Arlo Craft and Erin Everette in Duet Acting, Nadia Petru in Prose Interpretation; 5th place: Morgan Gonzales in Novice Extemporaneous Debate; 6th place: Alyssa Shumaker in Dramatic Interpretation, Connor Snow in Humorous Interpretation; 7th place: David Findley in Program Oral Interpretation; Quarterfinalists (top 8): Conner Williams and Katie Golson in Public Forum Debate.
