Bowie Blast - Week of Jan. 27


Air Force JROTC: Congratulations to Aidan Ellisor, who received a scholarship to attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program in the summer of 2019. Cadet Ellisor is one of 150 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets around the world to receive the scholarship from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama.

Swim and Dive Team District Results The girls placed 3rd overall and the boys placed 4th overall. Our district is one of the hardest in the state so we are extremely proud of how well they performed. All 6 of our relays will be moving on to Regionals next week which is a huge accomplishment.

Swim Team Regional Qualifiers: Freshman: Emma Dinwiddie (6th 500 Free); Madeleine Dunn (3rd 500 Free, 4th 100 Back); Addison Todd (3rd 100 Backstroke); Page Vavasour(5th Diving); Sophomores: Lane Elizondo (3rd 100Fly); Arianna Lax (2nd 200 Free, 2nd 100 fly); Alekzandr Popper (1st Diving); Brooke Simpson (4th 200IM, 1st 100 Breast); CJ Suarez(6th 200IM); Wesley Wasserburger (4th 100 Breast); Juniors: Caroline Myers (6th 50 free, 5th 100 fly); Seniors: Kaitlyn McDaniel (3rd 100 free, 6th 100 back); Gavin Moak (4th 200 Free, 1st 500 Free)

Relay qualifiers include: Ian Cullicott, Marc Galindo, Weston Hamilton, Delaney Anthony, James Hayek, Jed Hoard, and Kate Livingston

Bowie Yearbook: Balfour Publishing announced that based on early proofs of this year's yearbook, the Bowie Lone Star has been selected as a prime sample, one of only 14 selected out of the thousands of yearbooks they will print this year across the country. As a prime sample, extra copies of the Lone Star will be distributed nationally at workshops and conferences as a model for exemplary student work.

Wrestling: Congratulations to our varsity boys, girls and JV wrestling teams for defeating Vista Ridge at their final home dual of the season. What a showing by our seniors with all 8 winning on their final night in the gym! Great job Dawgs!

​Speech and Debate: At the first UIL Academic District tournament of the season, Rasheek Huqand Tate Weston won Policy Debate, becoming the first Policy Debate District Champions for Bowie High School. They will compete at the UIL State Meet in March. At the McNeil TFA State Qualifying tournament Alex Paulson won Congressional Debate, Noah McCuistion won Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate and Camille Zamora placed sixth in Humorous Interpretation.
