Bowie Blast -- Week of March 21

Computer Science: This year junior Arushi Sharma and senior Shruti Patel were recognized out of thousands of entrants as 2021 Regional Affiliate award winners by the National Center for Women & Information Technology for their achievements in Computer Science. Additionally, Arushi was also recognized as a 2021 National Honorable Mention award winner. Both girls will be recognized in a virtual awards ceremony in April and be awarded scholarship and internship opportunities.


Girls Soccer: Girls Varsity Austin High 2-0 and San Marcos 4-0. JV also defeated San Marcos 5-0. Lastly, the freshmen team defeated Lake Travis 2-0, lost to Westlake 0-1, and beat Austin High 1-0.


Boys Soccer: Boys Soccer won against Westlake: JVB 1-0, JVA 1-0 and Varsity 2-0 and won against Akins: JVB 4-0, JVA 3-0 and Varsity 5-0. They also won against Lake Travis: JVB 1-0, JVA 2-1 and Varsity 0-0. Lastly, they won against San Marcos: JVA 8-0 and Varsity 6-1. Awesome winning streak!


Track: It was a great start to the track season at the Bastrop Bear Relays. Varsity Boys were Team champions and Varsity Girls were runner-ups. The Boys 4x400 relay and the girls 4x100 relay teams both won. Standout individual performance on the boys side by Cash Peters in the pole vault with a new personal best of 14’6” and on the girls side Katherine Kastl won the 300 hurdles.



Softball: Lady Dawgs were finally able to hit the field and went 3-3. Both teams also played Hendrickson and won: Varsity 16-0 and JV 12-3.


Swimming: Let’s congratulate our UIL State swimmers and divers. Bowie is fortunate to have two athletes that completed their 4th state meet in as many years. Alex Popper finished 8th overall in the men's 1M Diving and Arianna Lax finished 14th overall in the women's 100 Butterfly.


Theater: The 2021 James Bowie High School UIL One-Act Play production of The Shadow Box took top honors and advanced from zone to district competition. Individual Awards included: Best Actor- Connor Snow, Best Actress- Maia Gerdes, All Star Cast- Erin Everette, Honorable Mention-Connor Russell, Javier Lozano and Outstanding Technician- Alyssa Shumaker. Other company members include: Tayah Savoy, Jadon Demetri, Sydney Reinhart, Rohith Chindalore, Aussie Lura, Ariana Ritzie, Kellen Watts, Anna Roadman, Wyatt Hood, Colette Waid, Zoe Bouck, McKenna Couch, Lainey Killian, Josh Nielsen, Kaitlyn Johnson, Zach Kohlmyer, Nadia Petru, Megan Sewell, Chris Thompson, Sophie Weitzman, Lucas Wilcox.

The Bowie production of the Shadow Box also advanced to the Bi-District Contest. Individual Awards included: Best Actress- Maia Gerdes, All Star Cast- Sydney Reinhart and Connor Russell, Outstanding Technician- Kellen Watts. Huge congrats to directors Betsy Cornwell, Cortney Hall and Colton Perry for their incredible teamwork in making it happen.


Guitar: Bowie hosted the Guitar UIL Solo and Small Ensemble competition. 12 Bowie Guitar Students received a Superior rating of a 1! Five students will be competing at the State level later this year. Students who received a superior rating, (* indicates going to State): *Jeremy Frey -10, *Aiden Christiansen - 10, *Ethan Smith - 10, *Ben Carroll - 10, *Julius Rivera -10 , Ian Slack - 10, Ryan Wood - 10, Gavin Spencer - 9, Jack Nelson - 11, Leiton Nguyen - 9 , Noah Leroux - 9, Binh Strubar - 9.


Baseball: The varsity baseball team won all 5 games at the AISD tournament. The Dawgs beat Leander Glenn 8-2, Austin HS 3-0, Crockett 9-0, Belton 16-0 and Vandegrift 9-1. That puts our record at 7-2-1. The team also beat Dripping Springs by a score of 2-1. Jonathan Eastin pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 run. Danny Rodriguez came in the 7 inning and got the save. Brody Miller hit a 2 run homer to take the lead in the 4th inning. Great team effort!


Piano: Bowie piano students competed in the Region 18 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. The following students earned Superior Ratings for their solos and have advanced to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May: Aidan Barboza, Ben Durbin, Ryan O'Mullan, Hannah Rother and Fiona Rubiano.


Band: This weekend Bowie Band students competed in the Region 18 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. The following students earned Superior Ratings for their solos.
