Bowie Blast -- Week of March 31

Speech & Debate: The team placed 7th overall at the Texas Forensics Association State Tournament and are STATE CHAMPIONS in Duo interpretation – Luke Evans and Kaedon Solana.

Other achievements include 4th place in Duet Acting- Kamryn Morales and Syndey Reinhart. 6th place in Duo Interpretation- Riley McCue and Alyssa Shumaker. State Semi-finalists: Brianna Rodriguez in Congressional Debate, Connor Snow in Humorous Interpretation, Kaedon Solana in Humorous Interpretation.

UIL Social Studies: The JBHS UIL Social Studies Team of Liana Chen, Ryan Noser, Alex Paulson, and Shane Valentine will advance to Regionals in San Antonio after earning First Place at the District Meet at Hays High School. Shane Valentine earned a Second Place Individual Medal in the contest.

The Dispatch: Texas Association of Journalism Educators has rewarded the staff with 42 print edition and 17 online "Best in Texas" awards. Preston Rolls won 10 photography awards. Abby Ong earned 7 writing and design awards. Cianna Chariez grabbed 5 writing and design awards. Jocelyn Brooks received 4 writing and design awards. Multi-award winners included: Shelby Papst, Ian Miller, Austyn Keelty, Marisa Salazar, Maddy Rice, Faith Lawrence, Jake Brien, Sam Blas, Mikayla Zellner, Gracie Angeli and Joe Morales.

One Act Play: The Bowie High School One-Act Play "Angels In America" advanced from Bi-District to Area contest, putting the show in top 48 in the state (out of 264 6A schools). Individual Awards included: All Star Cast- Luke Evans and Kaedon Solana, Honorable Mention-All Star Cast- Matthew Bosnyak and Morgan Sanders, Outstanding Technician- Samuel Fafel.

UIL Choir: All six Bowie Choirs received the coveted Sweepstakes aware meaning that they earned a “SUPERIOR” Rating from both the panels of judges in their performance and in their sight-singing categories. This is a ground-breaking year for the JBHS Choral Department in their first appearance at the UIL Contest in school history with six performing ensembles, and an amazing feat for the students to have achieved!
