Girls Cross Country Places 1st at Meet
Congrats to our Girls Varsity Team who placed 1st at the Cedar Park Meet- out of 17 teams competing.
Claire Meyer was 1st out of 139 runners with 5 of her other 9 teammates placing in the top 15. Ashlyn Smith- 4th Place, Jessica Rodriguez-Nino- 7th Place, Katherine Terracina- 14th Place, and Ellie Cemer- 15th Place. Seth Leifheit was our top Varsity boy placing 29th with a 5k time of 17:57 in a race with 226 runners. Our JV girls were 3rd at the meet with Corinne Johnson and Olivia Gendron being our top two runners.
Bowie Forensics Wins Big at Pflugerville HS Tournament
The Bowie Forensics team competed at the Pflugerville TFA State Qualifier and came home with big awards, including: 2nd place Overall Team Sweepstakes and new state qualifier in Dramatic Interpretation: Katie Norris. Individual awards included: 1st place in Duo Interpretation: Luke Evans and Kaedon Solana; 1st place in Dramatic Interpretation: Katie Norris; 1st place in Novice Extemporaneous Debate: Ashlyn Dahl; 2nd place in Duo Interpretation: Natalie Guerra and Reed Syzdek; 3rd place in Duo Interpretation: Luke Fisher and Faith Winkley; 3rd place in Dramatic Interpretation: Luke Evans; 3rd place in Humorous Interpretation: Kaedon Solana; 3rd place in International Extemporaneous Speaking: Amy Shreeve; 6th place in Duo Interpretation: Maya Armand and Lauren Warhola; 6th place in Congressional Debate: Amy Shreeve; 6th place in Humorous Interpretation: Connor Snow.
Finalist in Congressional Debate: Ashlyn Dahl; Semi-Finalists in Extemporaneous Speaking: Maggie Bisone, Andrew Chadha, Rebekah Garza, Rasheek Huq, Jack Maedgen, Briana Rodriguez, Robbie Warhola; Quarter-finalists in Public Forum Debate: Maggie Bisone & Rebekah Garza; Top Speaker Award in Public Forum Debate: Haroon Dossani.
Newspaper Staff Wins Awards
The Lone Star Dispatch (soon to be called The Dispatch) newspaper staff had two members of staff win individual awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circles, one of the premier national scholastic competitions. We also won two staff awards for a total of four Gold Circles. Those four awards are the most of any staff in central Texas. The only schools placing higher are private schools in Dallas and Houston and one public school in Texarkana. The individual winners were: Mia Barbosa (Class of 2018) - Single Sports Photograph - Certificate of Merit Fuaad Ajaz (Class of 2017 graduate) - Single Feature Photograph - Certificate of Merit Staff Awards: Headline Writing - Certificate of Merit and Caption Writing - 2nd place The first print edition will be out Friday, September 28.
