Bowie Blast -- Week of March 25

Dispatch Newspaper & Lone Star Yearbook Receive Silver Crown Awards…

During spring break, Bowie took seven newspaper and yearbook staff members and their advisors to New York City for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association conference. Both The Dispatch newspaper and Lone Star yearbook received Silver Crown awards. For the yearbook, it was the third straight crown award, while for the newspaper it was their first in nearly 25 years! Just seven schools from across the country had both of their print publications win crowns, so the publication department is in elite company with these two awards. Only 49 newspapers from across the country won Newspaper Print Crowns and just 35 Yearbook Print Crowns were given. For both publications to be in the top-50 overall is quite an achievement. These awards were for products produced for the 2016-17 school year.

Two academic teams from Bowie competed at the Hays Invitation UIL Academic Meet. The Accounting team, coached by Jennifer Vance, came in 1st place overall with Matthew Ankele in 1st, Alex Olah in 2nd, Anna Esaka in 3rd and Talia Hanley in 4th. Hannah Rutt also placed first in Literary Criticism.
