Bowie Blast - Week of Feb. 3

Powerlifting: Congrats on the win over Anderson High. Gia Spencer and Suen O. both lifted over 500 lbs. and Suen had a 235 lb. squat. Freshmen Noah Comancho lifted 765 lbs. and Aden Ponce lifted 1,125 lbs with a squat of 450 lbs. Varsity standouts Andre Infante lifted 985 lbs and both Reece Poole and Evan Janacek lifted over 1,000 lbs.

Odyssey: Bowie's literary magazine Odyssey was give the designation of "excellent" by the National Council of Teachers of English. While not their highest award, this is only our second year in production, and we continue to grow every year.

Orchestra: Region 18 held their annual UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest where students have the opportunity to qualify for Texas State Solo and Ensemble. To qualify, students must play a class 1 solo by memory or perform with an ensemble (small group) playing class 1 repertoire and earn a Superior rating. The following students all earned a Superior rating and the ones in bold qualified for TSSEC.

Violin: Quincy Bellman, Alina Berardo, Camryn Cox, Emma Davis, Rhea Dharwadker, Jacy Lim, Addie Sibley, Kristin Tran, William Zarrouk.

Viola: Grace Gum, Fiona Rubiono, Imogen Southerland, Matthew Velasquez, Miranda Whisenhunt

Cello: Joseph Byron, Andre Plackis

Bass: Kody Cardamone, Rauno Meneses-Halmari, Max Scofield, Mercedes Solis

String Quartet: Thomas Carroll, Rhea Dharwadker, Emmanuel Dominguez, Miranda Whisenhunt and Joseph Byron, Jonah Cadena-Perena, Emma Davis, Matthew Velasquez

UIL Science: Brandon Duncan, Caroline Govea, Vishnu Ranganath, Jack Rainey, and Nikhil Vadlamudi came in 1st place at the Weekend UIL Invitational. Vishnu Ranganath placed 1st overall and in individual events of biology and chemistry. Jack Rainey placed 5th overall.

UIL Number Sense and Calculator Teams: Caroline Govea, Gage Haden, and Jacob Rubine finished 2nd overall this weekend at the Invitational Meet. Jacob Rubine placed 2nd in individual Number Sense awards.

Travis County Youth Show: Congratulations to Austin Moorman, Grande Champion Award Winner for his Cinnamon Twist Bread in the Yeast Breads category and to Shea O'Reilly for a Blue Ribbon in the Quick Breads category.

UIL Guitar: Five students received the highest rating of 1 and will advance to State in May! Ryan Kriech, Sophie Lupton, Graydon Carlton, Leif Tilton and Fabian Isaola.

Varsity Wrestling: Congratulations to our varsity wrestling medalists who competed at the Frisco Heritage Coyote Classic. Placing 1st in their weight classes were Aylen Vivar and Vincent Villanueva. Placing 3rd in their weight classes were Corey Silguero and Marisol Moreno.
