Bowie Blast -- Oct. 20 - 27

James Bowie High School Outdoor Performing Ensemble (OPE) became the first ever Bands of America Waco Regional Champion! This is the fifth regional championship for James Bowie High School's marching band program. The Band has been named champions previously in 2016 at the McAllen Regional, 2014 at the Austin Regional, 2013 at the Austin Regional, and in 2011 at the Arlington Regional.

In preliminary performance, the OPE was awarded three caption awards (Visual, Music, and General Effect) and first place in class 4A. In addition to its first place finish in Finals, it was awarded captions for Visual and General Effect.

Bowie Choir: Bowie’s choir participated in the TMEA All-Region Choir Auditions. Fifteen students made the All-Region Choir and 14 will advance to the second round of auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir! The following students placed as follows: Soprano 1: Hannah Cherukuri - 5th Chair (Pre-Area), Hannah Bohannan - 13th Chair (Pre-Area); Soprano 2: Tennyson Tole - 2nd Chair (Pre-Area), Cat Hill - 8th Chair (Pre-Area), Cleo Singleton- 10th Chair (Pre-Area), Kaelie Douglass - 18th Chair (All-Region); Alto 1: Esther Ko - 6th Chair (Pre-Area), Joy Boyer - 14th Chair (Pre-Area); Alto 2: Camila Sotelo - 10th Chair (Pre-Area); Tenor 1: Ethan Moyer - 6th Chair (Pre-Area); Bass 1: John Demopoulos - 14th Chair (Pre-Area); Bass 2: Jackson Bloder - 7th Chair (Pre-Area), Ethan Bao - 10th Chair (Pre-Area), Elijah Hinahon - 13th Chair (Pre-Area), and Miles MacGregor - 14th Chair (Pre-Area).

Lone Star Yearbook: The 2019 Bowie High School yearbook was awarded second place Best in Show for large yearbook and a group of five students working together for the photo scavenger hunt were awarded second place. Congratulations to Zach Conlan, Taj James, Lizzie Jensen, Logan Dorsey & Emma Wake. Also, last year's editors-in-chief, Sophie Bega, Claire Meyer & Mia Moore were just awarded a top ten national finalist for Best Use of Social Media: Promotions from NSPA.

James Bowie High School Yearbook staff picks up awards in San Antonio.

Bowie Cross Country (10/15): The Bowie Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed in the UIL 25-6A meet last week with 90 runners participating! Freshman Boys received 2nd place with Corbin Jones, Zack Munger, and Jackson Hees finishing in the top 10. JV Boys also placed in 2nd with Zack Kos finishing in 8th place. Bailey Alsup finished in 3rd place for the Freshman girls. The JV girls had Natalie Munoz finish in 9th place. Paige Oldham finished in 8th place for the Varsity girls she will advance to Regionals in Corpus Christi on October 28th!

Bowie Tennis: The Varsity Tennis team beat Smithson Valley 10-2 to claim the Bi-District Championship following by defeating San Antonio Clark 10-3 to clinch the Area Championship! Great job, Bowie Tennis!
